Dry Eye Syndrome

Tears consist of water,mucus,and oil.

Every time you blink the eyelid spreads tears over the eye to lubrucate the surface.

Reflex tears are produced when you cry.They are different from lubrucating tears and do not soothe a dry eye.

Dry eye syndrome can affect people of any age,but often occurs as a result of aging.Women are more affected than men.


Symptoms

* Dryness and itching

* Burning and irritation

* Redness

* Blurred vision that improves with blinking

* Seeing halos around lights

* Sensitivity to bright light

* Scratchiness or a feeling of grittiness

* Increased discomfort after periods of reading,watching TV,or working on a computer

* Intolerance to wind,smoke,high altitude and cold,dry environments


Treatment

Artificial tears on a regular basis.Drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water a day.
