Fundamental  Principles
-are drawn from a duties of professional whether in public service or not.
-they are frame in broad and general terms and constitute basic guidance on professional behaviour, as follow:
#In accepting or continuing a professional assignment or occupation,a member should always have regard to any factors which reflect adversely  upon his integrity and objectivity in relation to that assignment and occupation.

#A member should carry out his professional work with a proper regard for the technical and professional standard expected of him as a member and should not undertake or continue professional work which he is not himself competent to perform unless he obtains such advice and assistance as will enable him competently to carry out the work.

#A member should conduct himself with courtesy and consideration towards all with whom he comes into contact in the course of his professional work.

#A member should follow the ethical guidance of the professional body/goverment and in circumstances not provided for by the guidance should conduct himself in a manner consistent with the good reputation of the profession.

The fundamental principles cover the quality of integrity, objectivity, competency and professionalism expected of practitioners.

~Integrity means adherence to moral & ethical principles,or simply honesty.
~Objectivity means impartially in performing all services
~Professionalism means professional standards emphasizes the importance of possessing the necessary skills and proficiency to carry out the professional work.

The fundamental principles also define a member's duties to the public ,the clients, employers, duties to the profession, and fellow members of the profession.

The advantage of carefully defined specific rules is the enforceability of minimum behaviour and performance standard.

~Professionals are expected to conduct themselves at a higher level than most other members of society.
~The term 'professional' means are responsibility for conduct that extends beyond satisfying individual responsibilities and beyond the requirement of our society's law and regulation.
~We, as a  professional,have a reponsibility to the public,to a fellow practitioners,including honorable behaviour,even if that means personal sacrifice.
~The underlying reason for a high level of professional conduct any profession is the need for public confidence
in the quality service by  the profession, regardless of the individual  providing it.
~If public do not confidence in your service, the ability of those professional to serve the clients and the public effectively is diminished.
~Public confidence in the quality of professional services is enhanced when the profession encourages high standards of performance and conduct on the part of all practitioners.
~But because of increased competition has made it more difficult to any professionals to conduct themselves
in a professional mannars.
~So must improved business practices e.g improve personal practices, better office management, more effective promotional methods, effective advertising

Ways the profeesion and society encourage professional to conduct themselves at a high level:
-conduct of practice personnel need;
  1.entrance qualification
  2.continuing professional education
  3.legal liability
  4.professional conduct and ethics

Professional Ethics (part 2)

Need for Ethics

-Ethical behaviour is necessary for a society to function in an orderly manner
-The need for ethics in society is sufficiently important that many commonly held ethical values are incorporated into laws.
e.g what will happen if we couldn't depend on the people who deal with to be honest. If everybody all  consistently lied,it would be almost impossible for effective communication to occur.

Why people act unethically?

2 reasons:

1.The person's ethical standards are different from those of society as a whole e.g drug dealers, bank robber etc.

2.The person chooses to act selfishly.

Ethical dilemmas is a situation a person faces in which a decision must be made about the appropriate behaviour
e.g -sell defective products, cheat price, falsify tax returns, cheat on exams etc.

Simple approach to resoving ethical dilemmas:
1)Obtain the relevant facts
2)Identify the ethical issues from the facts
3)Determine who is affected by the out come of the dilemma and how each person/group is effected.
4)Identify the alternative available to the person who must resolve the dilemma
5)Identify the likely consequence of each alternative
6)Decide the appropriate action.

Want to know why you're working so hard???

Here's why:

On the very first day of the world,God created the cow.He said to the cow."Ah Gu (cow),today I have created you! Your job is to go to the field with the farmer all day along.
You will provide the energy to pull things!
You will also provide milk for people to drink!
You are to work all day under the sun! In return,
you will only eat grass. For that,
you will have a life span of 50 years."

Ah Gu objected."What..I work all day in the sun and I get only to eat grass! On top of that,I have to give my milk away! I'll take 20 and you can have the remaining 30 years back!"
God agreed.

On the next day,God created the dog.He said to the dog."Ah Kow (dog),I have created you for a purpose.
You are to sit all day by the door of your master's house! Should anyone come in,you are to bark at them!
In return, you will eatyour master's leftovers.
I'll give you a life span of 20 years."

Ah Dog objected."What..I have to sit by the door all day and will need to barkat people, and what do I get......LEFTOVERS....
This isn't right, I''ll take 10 and you can have the remaining 10 years back!"
God agreed again.

On the third day,God created the monkey. He said to the monkey."Lao Kao(monkey),your job is to entertain people. You will make them laugh, act stupid  and make faces! You will also do somersaults and swing on trees to amaze them.
In return, you will get to eat bananas and peanuts.
For that,I'll give you 20 years to live."

Naturally the onkey objected.
"This is ridiculous.I gotta make faces and make people laugh let not even come to the part  about the trees and somersaults.Tell you what,I"ll give 10 years of my life to thank you for my existence and I"ll take 10.
What do you think?.
God agreed again.

On the forth day,God created humans.God said to the man."You are my best piece of work, for that, you will only need to sleep, eat, sleep, play, eat, sleep again and do nothing else. You will get all the best things and play with the best toys. All you need to do is enjoy all your life. For this kind of life,I"ll give you 20 years."

Just like the rest, the man objected."What, all I need to do is relax and enjoy myself and I have only 20 years to live?
Tell you what, you're 30 years back from Ah Gu,10years from Ah Kow and another 10 years from Lao Kao and probably don't know what to do with all those lifes. Why not I take them all and I'll have 70 years to live?"
God being such good natured, agreed with smile.........

AND THAT IS WHY......

We eat, sleep, play and enjoy for the first 20 years of  our lives when we are growing up.
Sit outside the door and 'bark' at people for the next 10 when weare retired.
And finally,we make faces and perform monkey tricks to entertain our grandchildren for the final 10 years.

GET IT?
