Floaters and Flashes

Floaters are small dark specks floating in the jelly-like fluid (vitreous) inside your eye.

Different shapes and sizes.

* Dots

* Circles

* Wavy lines

* Commas

* Clouds

* Cobwebs

Flashes are a sensation of light and may appear as tiny bright lights or sparkles.Flashes usually only last a second or two.


Causes

# Aging

# Inflammation after operation

# Bleeding

Some people with migraine experience flashes before the onset of a migraine headache.

Are floaters and flashes serious?

In the majority of cases floaters are harmless.Sometimes floaters are caused by a retinal tear or bleeding into the retina.This is a serious condition that requires prompt treatment.See your eye care specialist if you have floaters.
